EE* Pattern

The EE Pattern is based on the prints inspired from traditional sewing patterns. These metal boxes were used to deposit sugar, different types of flowers and were part of the usual tupperware households in the late 50’s and early 60’s.

I started developing this graphic as a low to medium privacy solution for one of the conference room from our Steelcase Business Centre in Cluj-Napoca Romania.

The intent was to connect functionality to a traditional regional motif and to play in the same design language with the custom made pieces of furniture that displayed traditional graphic elements.

I used illustrator to replicate the graphic in squares that in previous versions will be transformed in 5mm dots, emulating the Susan Cain Dotted Pattern privacy film used through the office floors.

From squares to dots – trying to keep consistency with the other graphics used for privacy films.

I developed several versions mixing the floral elements until I had a graphic ready for test, print and install.

Learning is one of the many things that govern our professional life. After the final install I decided that this graphic was pleasing and matched the initial requirements but did not match the dynamics of the space and application and fails to connect, in larger scale or consecutive panels to the corporate branding toolkit. This graphic has potential on smaller scale applications.
